In case of Zombie attack!

A Zombie: the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.

We’ve all heard the stories, seen the movies and at one point or another imagined the world being taken over by Zombies (well at least those as strange as me have) I remember watching various zombie themed movies and wondering to myself; What would I do? Where would I go? How would I survive?
My fiancé and I often joke when watching movies based on these creatures about creating an emergency zombie survival kit. So I thought what better blog entry for an early Wednesday morning then some helpful websites and tips to surviving a Zombie attack.
Step by Step survival tips available at >> http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Survive-a-Zombie-Invasion-1/
Here is some suggestions for survival kit items http://coolmaterial.com/cool-list/essential-gear-to-survive-zombie-attack/

While it is hard to be prepared if I did have a survival kit laid out this would be what it would contain;
1. Weapons; It’s good to have a short list stored away in the back of your mind of household items that you can obtain and turn into useful Zombie killing instruments if the situation ever occurred.
2. A first aid kit; this would need your basics at least- bandages, disinfectant, cotton swaps, scissors, tweezers, medical tape etc.
3. Torches, batteries, matches, walkie talkies; Night fall + no light + no way to communicate with those with you+ the possibility of a Zombie standing right behind you = lower chance of survival
4. Basic camping gear; this includes a sleeping bag, pocket knife, flint, camping utensils, water purification tablets etc- no matter where you are hiding have a basic camping pack with you can come in handy.
5. Food and Water; a given really- you need them to keep your strength up and ultimately to survive. Non perishable foods are best in the long run but fresher things will work at first. In terms of water, if the water is not the source of any infection then just having a collection of water bottles or containers available would be effective. If it is however a source, you better hope you had some bottled water laying around or readily available.
6. Transport and Petrol; To survive your best off leaving densely populated areas, and the quickest way to do this is with a vehicle- something big, sturdy and reliable (and if you can reinforced). Be sure to have extra petrol with you though, last thing you want is to run out and be stranded with no possible hiding places.
7. Maps and possible hideout locations; If you’re going to try and get away from the big city you should have some kind of idea as to where you’re going to head. Having a few hideout possibilities is handy in case option A or B or C for that matter falls to close to Zombie territory. I suggest locations out of populated centres but in a close enough distance that if needed scouting parties could venture out for supplies...if you’ve survived that long.
And finally 8. Good Shoes; why you may ask? Well if Zombies attack it in inevitable you will be running away ALOT, so it’s best to have a good pair of solid, durable comfortable shoes that are appropriate for any Zombie situation you may find yourself in.

However, it has been mathematically determined (see http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/08/zombies/) that inevitably the spread of the Zombie plague will eradicate the humans as we are now. Although it is suggested if we act quickly enough we may be able to stop the infection spreading....
But personally I think the most likely result, if the world was ever under a zombie attack, would be, that eventually we would all die, and Zombies would take their place at the top of the food chain and rule the world!

Bwhahaha x.

What a conundrum...

Rationality/Logical choice vs. Emotional Needs, Wants and Desires

http://www.pride2.org/NewPrideSite/Europe/Logs/LogsGraphics/091500mermaidsad.jpg
We as humans are not solely logical beings. Try as we may, all our endeavours, pursuits and even daily habits are influenced in same varying degree by our emotional needs, wants and desires. This is no more greatly apparent than in the context of our relationships with others.
We all have had them at some point in our lives- a backstabbing friend, a cheating partner, simply put a “toxic” relationship. While logically or rationally you would think that you would sever ties from people such as this, it’s not as simple as it seems. Unfortunately as humans the well of emotion runs deep, and it’s not as easy as switching off your feelings when something like this happens.
The logical and the emotional responses to these people is never as clear cut as we would like to assume. For example, for some people if a friend lies and says things behind their back, they will end the friendship. While their feelings for the person haven’t necessarily changed the hurt associated with a betrayal of the friendship forces them to end it. But for other people with a friend like this, they decide to remain in the friendship, usually with a hope that any issues can be worked through and that they can ultimately return to having the same relationship as before. Trying to ultimately forgive the toxicity, and move on.
Another example is; when asked what they would do if they found their partner cheating, something like 9 out of 10 women said they would leave me. Walk out the door, kick them out, and basically sever all ties. But as we all know it’s not nearly as simple as that. This isn’t necessarily the first reaction one would have if they found out a partner had cheated. Your emotional investment in a person isn’t rendered null and void from your discovery, instead a catacomb of other emotions would flood you- confusion, anger, hate, jealously, self-pity... the list goes on. The logical choice then is then blurred by the emotion tidal wave and many people are left with the decision. Which way is the best way to keep myself afloat.
So how are we meant to know what is the right thing to do in such situations?? How do we keep ourselves afloat?
It seems corny but really it’s a decision left to your heart- as well as your head. It’s up to you and you alone! The only thing you can do is try and be completely honest with yourself, decide what you feel and think is best for you and act. Sounds simple but it’s far from it!
While you may feel a need to ask people for advice, they will tell you what they think is the best (i.e. usually the most logical) course of action, usually telling you what they assume they would do if in a similar situation. But in reality no one know exactly what you’re going through and feeling, some may sympathise and have shared similar situations, but ultimately it comes down to what you and just you need, want and think. I’m not saying don’t take on peoples advice if that’s what you want, I’m just saying don’t take on peoples advice simply to avoid facing your own reality.

This is how we play it..

Pirates of Australian Politics

A mutiny on deck.

While Captain Rudd sailed us through harsh and malevolent weather, too many of his ship’s crew and a few passengers, unfortunately appeared to have gotten sea sick by the Captains sailing technique.

Captain Rudd sailed as smoothly as he could through rough seas, but while the ship has avoided catastrophe unhappiness still abounded through some of the crew and passengers.

Some of the decisions the Captain insisted on made many passengers angry, which in turn made the crew worried and too unhappy. One such decision was that some of the biggest passengers we’re told the more rations you find the more you’ll need to share. This didn’t sit well with some of the passengers. Many passengers started to rebel against this decree, many putting pressure on the ships’ crew to talk the captain into changing his mind. Ultimately scared that a ship wide mutiny may be afoot, many of the crew turned to first mate Gillard to talk to the Captain. The first mate at first tried to avoid such things, weeks past with rumours spreading that the First mate would soon take the Captains place. Finally the First Mate took a stand. Captain Rudd and his first mate Gillard drew their swords in private and fought back and forth to decide what was best for the ship and its crew and passengers. Finally Captain Rudd conceded that there was unrest within the crew and it must be dealt with swiftly. Captain Rudd addressed his passengers, speaking of the peril they had faced and survived with him at the helm, but how the unrest of the crew could surely debunk any attempt at smooth sailing and thus needed to be squashed as quickly as one could thus employing the democratic decision of letting his crew decide who should proceed as Captain for the rest of their journey. His words rung strong and proud as he spoke, confident of his past achievements, but unsure of his future as Captain. He turned to depart for the night and wait for the morning tide to bring resolve. But alas the crew still seemed unhappy and decided it best not to allow a democratic vote and they stormed the Captains lodge and pulled him from his positions, forcing him passed the passengers towards the plank. Captain Rudd seemed saddened to be made to leave his post, trying to hold his head high he was forced to walk the plank. The crew then swore in first mate Gillard to take position as the crew’s leader and ship’s Captain. To can take the helm and, they hoped, sail the vessel into another victorious election.

She’s only seventeen, can only imagine how her style will develop as she gets older =)

Evolution of the Ensemble-y challenged

I've never been hugely into fashion. When I was younger I was most certainly a tomboy, I only cared about my next game or practise. When it came to clothes the only thing I worried about was having my uniform clean and making sure what I was wearing was comfortable and durable enough to get out and about in. I began my youth in a pair of soccer shorts and a t-shirt. I’ll admit it I was a true dag!

Age 14- 2003

As time progressed and I eventually had to give up a lot, well all really, of my physical activities due to medical reasons, but my status as a fashion victim didn’t change.

Try as I may I could seem to find a style that I liked and felt comfortable in. In the end my daily wear seemed to mainly consist of jeans and tops that could definitely be described as the sort of thing your mum would dress you in. I hated shopping! I relied on hand-me-downs from my sisters most of the time, but on the occassion I had to shop, I’d be in and out in 5 minutes. I’d go, knowing what I needed-find the first item in my size and then leave. I wouldn’t try it on or even think it over whether it would look good on me, I’d simply grab whatever off the shelf and then that was it.

Age 18- 2007

Needless to say this truly didn’t help my fashionable challenged ways.

Luckily though, as time flitted away, and I got a little older and I hope a little wiser, my tastes slowly started to develop. I learned to appreciate taking my time to browse in a store and find things that would suit my shape, my skin tone, my general persona. Finally, I was developing some concept of myself in regards to the way I dressed, no longer dressing solely for function but also just in general for myself.

Age 20- 2009

I guess you could say when it came to fashion I was a late bloomer, but better late than never.

Dr Seuss wisely said...

“Be Who You Are and Say What You Feel Because Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind.”

George Petty- PinUp artist of the 1940's

George Petty is a favourite artist of mine. His work was primarily shown in magazines such as Esquire but he also produced a few calanders that circulated during the war period.

Step one

I've been searching for a source of inspiration, something to get me out of the restless stooper I seem to have found myself in. I need a renovation, a rejuvanation of my world. I've started by cleaning up and cleaning out my surroundings, a huge job but now that its done my mind feels a little less full of clutter.

So now that step ones complete its time to get into the groove and bless myself with searching for a new direction a new focus ^_^
