Abortion: a blog response

Last night my good friend Francis the author of Horny Pony Magic, posted a blog entitled ‘the most controversial topic of the year’. This blog was about abortion, and after reading my friends thoughts on the subject I thought I would give my own response on the subject, but rather than just add a comment to her blog post I thought why not do a blog response and share it here as well. http://hornyponymagic.blogspot.com/2010/10/controversial-topic-of-year.html

Personally I am very much pro-choice, a woman should have the right to determine whether or not she has an abortion and she shouldn’t be berated and tortured over making the choice. I agree with that, I do however have my own particular beliefs on when I think an abortion is appropriate and when I don’t believe (personally) there is a reason to have one.

I believe that in cases where;
• there is health risks and complications for the mother, the baby or both an abortion could be an appropriate action.
• Where the pregnancy came about through rape or any form of sexual exploitation of the woman- then I see it as appropriate. I don’t think it has to be a matter of the woman being “raped” per se, but if the women suffers any exploitive or manipulative behaviour that leads to the sex that caused the pregnancy then in some of those cases I believe the woman can appropriately consider abortion.

I do not however believe that people who fall pregnant unexpectedly should use abortion as their first option to consider. I know to some that seems hypocritical after saying I’m very much pro-choice, but I do have my reasoning behind this so hear me out.

I personally believe that if you’re going to have sex, you HAVE to be ready to deal with the consequences (possibly chance of falling pregnant- but also the other consequences, physical and emotional). If you aren’t prepared to deals with those consequences then you really shouldn’t be having sex. And I know some people will be saying, but abortion is a way of dealing with those consequences. Well I say to those people, so is contraception or the morning after pill but some people seem to forget that. In cases of unplanned pregnancies, and I’m not saying in all because heck contraception’s not 100% effective- hell if you want to be critical abstinence isn’t totally effective if you believe in Christ’s conception (but that’s another bag of worms I won’t be entering into) but in ALOT of these cases, the people in question don’t bother with contraception or the morning after pill. They have “unprotected” sex and are then surprised to find out they are pregnant, some (not ALL) then decide well I don’t want the baby, I can’t have a baby now, or maybe even I’m not ready to be a parent, and then some thusly consider first (and sometimes as the only option) that they should get an abortion.

Personally I think that’s STUPID, I don’t see why the option of adoption or in fact keeping the baby shouldn’t and AREN’T in some cases considered first. I’m not saying that every unplanned pregnancy occasioning from consensual sex should occur and the woman should always take the pregnancy to full term, I just think that if you have sex and can’t handle the possible consequences then you SHOULD NOT HAVE SEX. To me its honestly that simple.

So while I believe that it is ultimately a personal choice that should be left up to the women, I think that people should consider ALL the options before they commit to doing anything or not. But mostly, if you aren’t ready to deal with the possible consequences that CAN happen from having sex, then just don’t have sex yet! Or if that concept isn’t going to be an option then go for it, have sex and lots of it!, but have the sense to do EVERYTHING possible to try and help ‘prevent’ the possible consequences. For a few particularly slow individuals (some of which I am acquainted) this means use contraception, the excuse of I forgot is pathetic! If your having sex and don’t want to have a baby yet then CONTRACEPTION IS YOUR FRIEND, it doesn’t hurt, it’s not very expensive and in the majority of western civilisation it’s not particularly hard to come by!

So just to reiterate, pro-choice is great I’m all for it, but if you’re going to have sex be prepared to handle the consequences whatever they may be, but if you do happen to come face to face with the prospect of having a baby then if abortion isn’t NECESSARY (unlike in the cases like that of Aaron Gouveia and his wife- see link to article below or follow the link from HornyPonyMagics post) then atleast consider the other options, research it, weigh up every available option and then make an INFORMED decision in regards as to what is best for you. If it’s still an abortion after all that, then do it! Just be sure it’s what’s right for you.

Hope this makes people think about their own thoughts on the topic of abortion, feel free to share any opinions below if you want =)

End to rantish blog response

Aaron Gouveia article-http://goodmenproject.com/2010/10/23/confronting-life/

Bwhahaha on a side note I thought I'd add a little notion in regards to this religious debate of pro-life v pro-choice, I'm not particularly religous, while I like the notion and prospect of a high power and such I really kinda detest the notion of religious 'dictation' of how to believe worship etc etc...anyway from what i do know about most religions however is that the god/gods/deities that are worshipped, most (if not all of them) gave as their gift to US (human beings) the ability to CHOOSE! As such wouldn't it be fair to say that while this god/god/deity may be pro-life that they are also pro-choice as they are the ones who apparantly gave us the ability to do so. Well thats my perception on it anyways....=D Can of worms opened :P

Some People deserve to be shot...

...that way they could see what it feels like.

In Carolina, USA, over the weekend a female alligator hunter caught and killed a 465kg alligator. Mary-Ellen (with a redneck name like that maybe it shouldn’t surprise me she hunts and is that stupid) caught the gator on a hook and then roped it onto the boat her, her husband and a hunting guide were on. Where they wrestled with it for hours before securing it on their boat with rods and snares before shooting it no less than EIGHT TIMES!

Then, because the alligator was still alive Mary-Ellen had to stab him several times and finally cut his spinal cord.So after torturing the creature for hours, finally she killed him.

After all of this when talking to media and stuff about the hunt and kill, she explained that she hunts “because I want these creatures to be here forever”.

What?!?!

Okai, so some may think I’m off my nut or something but doesn’t killing something mean that it won’t be around anymore, so how exactly is this meant to be helping ‘these creatures to be here forever.’
In order to keep alligators around forever, she decided it would be the right thing to kill a alligator....yes oh perfect sense >.< RETARD!

Things like this make me wish it was legal to shoot people sometimes.

When my dog yawns in the middle of the night it sounds like the zombie apocalypse is finally upon us!

Invasion movies are a dime a dozen, and more often than not you find yourself watching the characters attempts and survival and saying how you would do it differently. Imagining yourself in those situations and thinking about all the things you would and wouldn’t do.
Anything from homes being invaded by bugulars, and towns being overrun with infestions of mutant creepy-crawleys to the Earth being underseige by aliens or the fail of the human race to the perils of a zombie outbreak.

So with the success of Tomorrow When the War Began here in Australia, ninemsn have seen fit to compile a gallery that utilises some ‘invasion’ movies to show us some of the do’s and don’ts of survival in invasion situations. The Gallery covers everything from Military and Home invasions, to Robots, Zombies and Monsters to Aliens and Vampires.

Simple ways to feel pretty!

Nail polish it’s been around almost as long as civilisation. In ancient Egypt, the Egyptians would colour their nails with reddish-brown stains derived from. The Incas painted eagles on their fingertips and the Chinese used lacquers made from anything from mixtures of egg whites, beeswax and gelatin to crushed orchid and rose petals and alum to decorate and tint their nails.

This ancient practise while used to protect the nails is usually used most simply for appearance.
Nail polish has the effect of brightening up your day and giving you that little bit of a pick me up, especially on those days when you really need it. It can show a side of you, you don’t often let out or it can put across an air of polished, coiffed elegance. Simply put, it can make you feel pretty ^_^

Of late my girlfriend and I have become, for lack of a better term, obsessed with painting our nails. We delight in the girlish moments of painting them and then the final results. In the past 7 days we have tried a combined total of 10 different colours.

The bursts of personality and temperament that wearing a particular colour or shade of nail polish can exude and in some cases make you yourself indulge in is delectable.

Nail polish is a cheap but extremely effective way of changing it up, without much more effort then a few brush strokes.

Tomorrow When The War Began Review

I haven’t actually read the John Marsden books, but my fiancé James has and is a HUGE fan. So as soon as it was mentioned that they were even making a movie adaption of ‘Tomorrow When The War Began’ he was excited.

John Marsden wrote seven books in the Tomorrow When The War Began Series, each following the main character Ellie, through her and her friends guerrilla warfare against an invader army in attempts to stem the war and save the ones they love.

The reviews when the movie was first released all sounded quite positive. So we were excited to finally go and catch the flick. Finally today we did!

Basically the story goes, Ellie and her best friend Corrie plan a camping trip into ‘Hell’ over the Australia day weekend with 5 of their friends. While further up the river then they’d ever been before war breaks out. They return home to find their families gone, dogs dead and the town being held in a prison camp at the showground. It follows Ellie and the rest of the group coming to grips with what has happened, hiding from the enemy and basically staying alive- which means kill or be killed.

According to James (and most of the reviews I’ve read) it’s a faithful adaption. Full of action, drama and great Aussie scenery. I personally have been putting off reading the books unsure if it’s something I could get into, but if the movies anything to go by it’ll be intense and well worth it!

All in all the movie is well worth a watch, for both people who have and haven’t read the books. Stuart Beattie best known for his work as a screenwriter (he collaborated on the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and wrote Collateral) makes his directorial debut with this movie and in my opinion does an excellent job. It’s action packed and filled with some drama. The acting within the film for me was patchy in parts due to particular characters, I found Robyn played by Ashleigh Cummings to be very wooden in most scenes, but alternatively Caitlyn Stasey as Ellie and Deniz Akdeniz as Homer were excellent, as was most of the rest of the cast.

I give it 4 and ½ stars ^_^

Sweet music

The gorgeous specimen that is the acclaimed actor Hugh Laurie, is set to release an album. Laurie is now mostly known for his television role as Dr Gregory House, but other brilliant roles can be seen in the Blackadder series, P.G Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster and movies such as Stuart Little, Flight of the Phoenix, and Street Kings.

The brilliant Brit is a self taught musician, and he often showcases his skills on the popular series House MD. The yet-to-be-titled-album is being described as a ‘New Orleans-flavoured blues album’.

While the bridge between acting and making music is a rickety one, Hugh insists whilst ‘[t]he history of actors making music is a chequered one, but I promise no one will get hurt."

I personally, cannot wait to hear it!

Unexpected Post

One thing I always look forward to each day is when the mailman comes. I love receiving mail.

There is nothing better than receiving mail. Receiving a letter from friends is a phenomenon that only happens once in a blue moon, but when it does its spectacular. Unexpected mail is the best type!

But honestly I get happy when I even just receive bills in the mail, because I get mail!....yes these mundane things do make me happy.

So I’ve decided to start writing more letters to my friends. Its my hope that these letters will help bring the same little smile to their faces as I get on mine when I get something un expected in the mail, and admittedly I’m selfishly hoping that maybe just maybe that smile will make them so happy they send me a letter back....so then I to can have the pleasure of unexpected mail.

one foot infront of the other

We’re pulling up our roots, putting ourselves in travel pots and then replanting ourselves in richer ground. Shedding our dead limbs in the hope of re-growing new ones.

Once in a while we all need a change, a fresh outlook, a new path, something to shake up the routine of life. Just even a small something to give you some new perspective and some new inspirations.

For quite a while I’ve been finding myself stuck in a rut, unsure of where to go from here. Not sure what I wanted to do, and trying to figure out where abouts to head from here. Now finally things are going to be shaken up :)

After all, variety is the spice of life.

No Capes!

The classic outfit of one of the most famous female superheroes is about to be placed back in her closet, and a more modern emsemble choosen.
To mark the 600th edition of Wonder Woman, DC comics have decided after 69 years of the same outfit that it's time for Wonder Woman to ditch the hot pants, bustier and go-go boots for something a little more up to date. The Amazonic beauty will don black leggings, a studded demin jacket and gloves. However theres a few things she won't lose her headband and ofcourse her golden lasso of truth.

From the looks of the mock up covers I've seen this new emsemble adds a fresh, contemporary and up to date look to the classic heroine.
What do you think? Do you like Wonder Womans updated attire or should DC keep the Amzonic superhero in her prefered attire of the last 69 years?

In case of Zombie attack!

A Zombie: the body of a dead person given the semblance of life, but mute and will-less, by a supernatural force, usually for some evil purpose.

We’ve all heard the stories, seen the movies and at one point or another imagined the world being taken over by Zombies (well at least those as strange as me have) I remember watching various zombie themed movies and wondering to myself; What would I do? Where would I go? How would I survive?
My fiancé and I often joke when watching movies based on these creatures about creating an emergency zombie survival kit. So I thought what better blog entry for an early Wednesday morning then some helpful websites and tips to surviving a Zombie attack.
Step by Step survival tips available at >> http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Survive-a-Zombie-Invasion-1/
Here is some suggestions for survival kit items http://coolmaterial.com/cool-list/essential-gear-to-survive-zombie-attack/

While it is hard to be prepared if I did have a survival kit laid out this would be what it would contain;
1. Weapons; It’s good to have a short list stored away in the back of your mind of household items that you can obtain and turn into useful Zombie killing instruments if the situation ever occurred.
2. A first aid kit; this would need your basics at least- bandages, disinfectant, cotton swaps, scissors, tweezers, medical tape etc.
3. Torches, batteries, matches, walkie talkies; Night fall + no light + no way to communicate with those with you+ the possibility of a Zombie standing right behind you = lower chance of survival
4. Basic camping gear; this includes a sleeping bag, pocket knife, flint, camping utensils, water purification tablets etc- no matter where you are hiding have a basic camping pack with you can come in handy.
5. Food and Water; a given really- you need them to keep your strength up and ultimately to survive. Non perishable foods are best in the long run but fresher things will work at first. In terms of water, if the water is not the source of any infection then just having a collection of water bottles or containers available would be effective. If it is however a source, you better hope you had some bottled water laying around or readily available.
6. Transport and Petrol; To survive your best off leaving densely populated areas, and the quickest way to do this is with a vehicle- something big, sturdy and reliable (and if you can reinforced). Be sure to have extra petrol with you though, last thing you want is to run out and be stranded with no possible hiding places.
7. Maps and possible hideout locations; If you’re going to try and get away from the big city you should have some kind of idea as to where you’re going to head. Having a few hideout possibilities is handy in case option A or B or C for that matter falls to close to Zombie territory. I suggest locations out of populated centres but in a close enough distance that if needed scouting parties could venture out for supplies...if you’ve survived that long.
And finally 8. Good Shoes; why you may ask? Well if Zombies attack it in inevitable you will be running away ALOT, so it’s best to have a good pair of solid, durable comfortable shoes that are appropriate for any Zombie situation you may find yourself in.

However, it has been mathematically determined (see http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/08/zombies/) that inevitably the spread of the Zombie plague will eradicate the humans as we are now. Although it is suggested if we act quickly enough we may be able to stop the infection spreading....
But personally I think the most likely result, if the world was ever under a zombie attack, would be, that eventually we would all die, and Zombies would take their place at the top of the food chain and rule the world!

Bwhahaha x.

What a conundrum...

Rationality/Logical choice vs. Emotional Needs, Wants and Desires

http://www.pride2.org/NewPrideSite/Europe/Logs/LogsGraphics/091500mermaidsad.jpg
We as humans are not solely logical beings. Try as we may, all our endeavours, pursuits and even daily habits are influenced in same varying degree by our emotional needs, wants and desires. This is no more greatly apparent than in the context of our relationships with others.
We all have had them at some point in our lives- a backstabbing friend, a cheating partner, simply put a “toxic” relationship. While logically or rationally you would think that you would sever ties from people such as this, it’s not as simple as it seems. Unfortunately as humans the well of emotion runs deep, and it’s not as easy as switching off your feelings when something like this happens.
The logical and the emotional responses to these people is never as clear cut as we would like to assume. For example, for some people if a friend lies and says things behind their back, they will end the friendship. While their feelings for the person haven’t necessarily changed the hurt associated with a betrayal of the friendship forces them to end it. But for other people with a friend like this, they decide to remain in the friendship, usually with a hope that any issues can be worked through and that they can ultimately return to having the same relationship as before. Trying to ultimately forgive the toxicity, and move on.
Another example is; when asked what they would do if they found their partner cheating, something like 9 out of 10 women said they would leave me. Walk out the door, kick them out, and basically sever all ties. But as we all know it’s not nearly as simple as that. This isn’t necessarily the first reaction one would have if they found out a partner had cheated. Your emotional investment in a person isn’t rendered null and void from your discovery, instead a catacomb of other emotions would flood you- confusion, anger, hate, jealously, self-pity... the list goes on. The logical choice then is then blurred by the emotion tidal wave and many people are left with the decision. Which way is the best way to keep myself afloat.
So how are we meant to know what is the right thing to do in such situations?? How do we keep ourselves afloat?
It seems corny but really it’s a decision left to your heart- as well as your head. It’s up to you and you alone! The only thing you can do is try and be completely honest with yourself, decide what you feel and think is best for you and act. Sounds simple but it’s far from it!
While you may feel a need to ask people for advice, they will tell you what they think is the best (i.e. usually the most logical) course of action, usually telling you what they assume they would do if in a similar situation. But in reality no one know exactly what you’re going through and feeling, some may sympathise and have shared similar situations, but ultimately it comes down to what you and just you need, want and think. I’m not saying don’t take on peoples advice if that’s what you want, I’m just saying don’t take on peoples advice simply to avoid facing your own reality.

This is how we play it..

Pirates of Australian Politics

A mutiny on deck.

While Captain Rudd sailed us through harsh and malevolent weather, too many of his ship’s crew and a few passengers, unfortunately appeared to have gotten sea sick by the Captains sailing technique.

Captain Rudd sailed as smoothly as he could through rough seas, but while the ship has avoided catastrophe unhappiness still abounded through some of the crew and passengers.

Some of the decisions the Captain insisted on made many passengers angry, which in turn made the crew worried and too unhappy. One such decision was that some of the biggest passengers we’re told the more rations you find the more you’ll need to share. This didn’t sit well with some of the passengers. Many passengers started to rebel against this decree, many putting pressure on the ships’ crew to talk the captain into changing his mind. Ultimately scared that a ship wide mutiny may be afoot, many of the crew turned to first mate Gillard to talk to the Captain. The first mate at first tried to avoid such things, weeks past with rumours spreading that the First mate would soon take the Captains place. Finally the First Mate took a stand. Captain Rudd and his first mate Gillard drew their swords in private and fought back and forth to decide what was best for the ship and its crew and passengers. Finally Captain Rudd conceded that there was unrest within the crew and it must be dealt with swiftly. Captain Rudd addressed his passengers, speaking of the peril they had faced and survived with him at the helm, but how the unrest of the crew could surely debunk any attempt at smooth sailing and thus needed to be squashed as quickly as one could thus employing the democratic decision of letting his crew decide who should proceed as Captain for the rest of their journey. His words rung strong and proud as he spoke, confident of his past achievements, but unsure of his future as Captain. He turned to depart for the night and wait for the morning tide to bring resolve. But alas the crew still seemed unhappy and decided it best not to allow a democratic vote and they stormed the Captains lodge and pulled him from his positions, forcing him passed the passengers towards the plank. Captain Rudd seemed saddened to be made to leave his post, trying to hold his head high he was forced to walk the plank. The crew then swore in first mate Gillard to take position as the crew’s leader and ship’s Captain. To can take the helm and, they hoped, sail the vessel into another victorious election.

She’s only seventeen, can only imagine how her style will develop as she gets older =)

Evolution of the Ensemble-y challenged

I've never been hugely into fashion. When I was younger I was most certainly a tomboy, I only cared about my next game or practise. When it came to clothes the only thing I worried about was having my uniform clean and making sure what I was wearing was comfortable and durable enough to get out and about in. I began my youth in a pair of soccer shorts and a t-shirt. I’ll admit it I was a true dag!

Age 14- 2003

As time progressed and I eventually had to give up a lot, well all really, of my physical activities due to medical reasons, but my status as a fashion victim didn’t change.

Try as I may I could seem to find a style that I liked and felt comfortable in. In the end my daily wear seemed to mainly consist of jeans and tops that could definitely be described as the sort of thing your mum would dress you in. I hated shopping! I relied on hand-me-downs from my sisters most of the time, but on the occassion I had to shop, I’d be in and out in 5 minutes. I’d go, knowing what I needed-find the first item in my size and then leave. I wouldn’t try it on or even think it over whether it would look good on me, I’d simply grab whatever off the shelf and then that was it.

Age 18- 2007

Needless to say this truly didn’t help my fashionable challenged ways.

Luckily though, as time flitted away, and I got a little older and I hope a little wiser, my tastes slowly started to develop. I learned to appreciate taking my time to browse in a store and find things that would suit my shape, my skin tone, my general persona. Finally, I was developing some concept of myself in regards to the way I dressed, no longer dressing solely for function but also just in general for myself.

Age 20- 2009

I guess you could say when it came to fashion I was a late bloomer, but better late than never.

Dr Seuss wisely said...

“Be Who You Are and Say What You Feel Because Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind.”

George Petty- PinUp artist of the 1940's

George Petty is a favourite artist of mine. His work was primarily shown in magazines such as Esquire but he also produced a few calanders that circulated during the war period.

Step one

I've been searching for a source of inspiration, something to get me out of the restless stooper I seem to have found myself in. I need a renovation, a rejuvanation of my world. I've started by cleaning up and cleaning out my surroundings, a huge job but now that its done my mind feels a little less full of clutter.

So now that step ones complete its time to get into the groove and bless myself with searching for a new direction a new focus ^_^
